The History of the Studio
SSDC is a small, non-profit studio started by Colleen Schmidt and Nancy Nehr in 1997. The partners started the
studio to meet the needs of many young dancers who participated in school and community activities and a studio that had an
open enrollment policy.
The studio originally had a Modern Dance focus, but has since evolved into a studio that has strong programs in Modern,
Hip Hop and Ballet. We have also added Jazz, Yoga, Belly dancing, Acting, Latin, Ballroom and Jujitsu to the classes
offered at the studio.
Some classes are through private contractors and other instructors are part of the SSDC staff.
Our Mission
"SSDC is a community based school of dance providing professional dance education that nurtures the student's
physical, emotional, artistic, and social development. As a non-profit studio we ensure that all who
dream to dance, can."
- We want dance to be a fun and nurturing experience for our youngest dancers. As the
dancers get older we encourage body awareness, movement to music, fun, social skills and fitness as part of the entire package
at SSDC.
- Through our Work-to-Dance program we are able to offer affordable dance classes to ANYONE and EVERYONE.
See our Director for more details.
- This is YOUR community studio, so to make your experience at SSDC all it can be,
please feel free to call us, e-mail us, or stop by and see what we have to offer.
